Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or oil.
- Prepare the Hamburger Steaks: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated.
- Shape the Meat: Form the meat mixture into 4-6 oval patties and place them in the prepared baking dish.
- Brown the Steaks: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the hamburger steaks on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Once browned, place the steaks back in the baking dish.
- Prepare the Gravy: In a medium bowl, whisk together the beef broth and cream of mushroom soup until smooth.
- Pour the Gravy: Pour the gravy mixture over the hamburger steaks in the baking dish, making sure they are well coated.
- Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the hamburger steaks are cooked through and tender.
- Add Cheese: Remove the foil and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the hamburger steaks. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese.
- Serve: Serve the Amish Hamburger Steak Bake hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dishes. Enjoy the comforting flavors!
