Description
Apple Chutney Pork Chops is a mouthwatering dish that combines the savory flavors of pork chops with the sweet and tangy notes of a homemade apple chutney. This recipe is a delightful fusion of tastes, where the tender pork is perfectly complemented by the complexity of the chutney.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless pork chops
- 2 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 tablespoon canola oil or olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoon maple syrup or more honey
- 1/2 teaspoon dijon or ground mustard
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 cup honeycrisp apples (unpeeled, chopped into 1/2 inch pieces)
- 2 tablespoon golden raisins (or raisins or craisins)
- parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
1. In a shallow dish, mix the flour, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and kosher salt. Coat each side of the pork chops with this mixture and set them aside, ready to be seared and baked.
2. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add about 2 tablespoon of canola or olive oil. Brown the pork chops on each side, then transfer them to an 8×8 baking dish, ready for the oven.
3. Bake the pork chops in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F, ensuring they’re cooked through and juicy.
4. While the pork chops are baking, start preparing the apple chutney. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the salt, nutmeg (or cinnamon), curry powder, ground cardamom, and ground ginger, creating a flavorful base for the chutney.
5. To the saucepan, add the honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, dijon (or ground mustard), apples, and raisins. Stir to combine everything well. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer, uncovered, for 10-15 minutes or until the apples are tender.
6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water. Slowly drizzle this cornstarch slurry into the simmering apple chutney while stirring continuously, allowing the mixture to thicken slightly. Once the desired consistency is reached, remove the chutney from heat.
7. When the pork chops are done, transfer them to a serving plate and generously spoon the apple chutney over the top. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and enjoy this delightful combination of savory and sweet flavors!
Notes
To ensure your pork chops are cooked to perfection, pay close attention to the internal temperature and avoid overcooking. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness, aiming for an internal temperature of 145°F. Additionally, be sure to season the pork chops generously with the provided spice mixture for maximum flavor.
