Description
Cheeseburger egg rolls are a fun and flavorful twist on the classic cheeseburger, combining the savory elements of a juicy burger with the crispy, portable appeal of an egg roll. These irresistible appetizers have become a popular choice for game day parties, casual gatherings, and family meals.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (90/10 lean)
- 1/2 small onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and chopped
- 1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/3 cup dill pickles, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12–16 egg roll wrappers
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon sweet relish
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and diced onion, breaking up the meat as it cooks, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
2. Stir in the garlic, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Then, add the ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Remove the beef mixture from the heat and stir in the cooked bacon, chopped pickles, and shredded cheese until the cheese melts. Allow the filling to cool slightly.
4. Place an egg roll wrapper in a diamond shape in front of you. Spoon 3 to 4 tablespoon of the cheeseburger filling into the center. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly. Brush the top corner with water to seal the egg roll.
5. Heat about 1 inch of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F. Fry the cheeseburger egg rolls in batches, seam side down, for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer the fried egg rolls to a paper towel-lined plate.
6. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper to create the burger-inspired dipping sauce.
7. Allow the cheeseburger egg rolls to rest for 4 to 5 minutes before serving. Serve them warm with the prepared burger sauce for dipping.
Notes
To ensure your cheeseburger egg rolls turn out perfectly, here are a few essential tips and tricks:
Opt for a lean ground beef, such as 90/10 or 93/7, to avoid excess grease in the filling.
Keep the egg roll wrappers covered with a damp paper towel to prevent them from drying out while you assemble the rolls.
Fry the cheeseburger egg rolls at the optimal temperature of 350°F for a golden-brown, crispy exterior.
