Description
Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic French dish featuring tender chicken breasts stuffed with savory turkey slices and melted Swiss cheese, then breaded and baked or fried to golden perfection, served with a creamy Swiss cheese sauce.
Ingredients
- Chicken Breasts: 4 pieces, boneless and skinless
- Turkey Slices: 8 slices, deli-style
- Swiss Cheese: 4 slices
- Breadcrumbs: 1 cup, preferably panko
- Eggs: 2 large
- Flour: 1 cup
- Milk: 1/2 cup
- Butter: 4 tablespoons
- Garlic Powder: 1 teaspoon
- Salt and Pepper: To taste
Instructions
1. Begin by pounding each chicken breast to an even 1/4-inch thickness.
2. Place 2 slices of turkey and 1 slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast, then roll the chicken tightly and secure it with toothpicks.
3. Dredge each chicken roll in flour, dip it in beaten eggs, and then coat it with a mixture of breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
4. Bake the Chicken Cordon Bleu at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes or pan-fry it in butter until cooked through and golden brown.
5. To make the Swiss cheese sauce, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan, whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour, then slowly add 1/2 cup of milk, whisking until smooth. Stir in 1/2 cup of shredded Swiss cheese until melted.
6. Remove the toothpicks from the chicken rolls, slice, and drizzle with the warm Swiss cheese sauce.
Notes
Best served with roasted potatoes, steamed asparagus, or a fresh garden salad.
Pair with a light-bodied white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or a medium-bodied red wine like Merlot for a perfect meal.
