Description

Classic Italian bruschetta is a simple yet flavorful appetizer made with grilled bread topped with a mixture of ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, and extra-virgin olive oil.

Ingredients

  • Ripe Roma Tomatoes
  • Crusty Italian Bread
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
  • Fresh Basil Leaves
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Sea Salt and Black Pepper
  • Optional: Red Pepper Flakes

Instructions

1. Prep the Tomatoes: Dice the Roma tomatoes and place them in a bowl. Add the chopped basil, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, a generous pour of olive oil, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Gently toss to combine and let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

2. Toast the Bread: Slice the Italian bread into thick, half-inch slices. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil and toast the bread on a grill or in a skillet until golden brown and crisp.

3. Rub with Garlic: As soon as the toasted bread slices come off the heat, rub the garlic clove over the top of each one, allowing the pungent aroma to infuse the bread.

4. Top and Serve: Spoon the marinated tomato mixture onto the garlic-rubbed side of the toasted bread slices. Drizzle a touch more olive oil over the top and serve immediately, while the bread is still warm and crisp.

Notes

For a visually appealing presentation, arrange the bruschetta slices on a rustic wooden board or platter. Drizzle a bit of balsamic glaze over the top for an extra touch of sweetness and acidity. You can also garnish the dish with a few fresh basil leaves or a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
