Description
Creamy Chicken Sausage Orzo is a flavorful one-pan meal combining tender orzo, chicken sausage, and a creamy sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 12 ounce chicken sausage, sliced
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken sausage and cook for 3-5 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
2. In the same pan, add onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
3. Add orzo and toast for 1 minute, stirring frequently.
4. Pour in chicken broth, add thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8-10 minutes until orzo absorbs most of the liquid.
5. Reduce heat, stir in heavy cream and cheese until smooth. Add cooked sausage back to the skillet and mix well.
6. Garnish with parsley, extra cheese, and lemon zest before serving.
Notes
Feel free to customize with different sausage flavors or add spinach and sun-dried tomatoes for extra nutrition.
