Description
Crispy Angel Cake Churro Bites are bite-sized morsels that combine the light, airy texture of angel food cake with the irresistible cinnamon-sugar coating of churros. Perfect for parties or as a sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen angel food cake, thawed
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
1. Start by letting your angel food cake thaw for 2-3 hours. Once it’s nicely softened, cut the cake into 1 1/2 to 2-inch cubes.
2. In a bowl, stir together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over low-medium heat. Working in batches, carefully fry the cake cubes until golden brown – about 1-2 minutes per side. Drain excess oil on a paper towel-lined plate.
4. Immediately after frying, toss the warm cake cubes in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat them evenly.
5. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to create icing. Drizzle over the coated churro bites just before serving.
Notes
Store leftover churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispiness. Avoid refrigerating to prevent sogginess. For longer storage, freeze them and reheat in an oven at 350°F for about 5-10 minutes.
