Description
Crispy Brussels sprouts have become a beloved side dish, with their ability to transform this often-maligned vegetable into a crave-worthy delicacy. By roasting Brussels sprouts to perfection, you can unlock their natural sweetness and create a satisfying crunch that pairs beautifully with the savory richness of bacon. In this recipe, we’ll take that concept one step further by adding a delectable maple bacon glaze, creating a truly irresistible dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or a side.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
- 4 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped into 1/4-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 small shallot, diced
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
2. Trim the ends off the Brussels sprouts and cut them in half lengthwise. Remove any loose outer leaves.
3. In a large bowl, combine the maple syrup, olive oil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the Brussels sprouts and chopped bacon, tossing everything until it’s well coated.
4. Spread the mixture in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, arranging the Brussels sprouts cut-side down.
5. Roast the Brussels sprouts for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring halfway through, until they’re golden brown and crispy on the edges, and the bacon is cooked through.
6. Remove the pan from the oven and drizzle with additional maple syrup if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
When selecting Brussels sprouts, look for tightly packed, bright green heads that are firm to the touch. Avoid any that are yellow or wilted.
High heat is key to achieving crispy Brussels sprouts. Adjust cooking time based on your oven’s characteristics.
