Delicious Ground Beef Stovetop Chili: A Hearty, Flavorful Classic
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 ounce) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounce) red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 ounce) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (6 ounce) tomato paste
- 2 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
1. 1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the pot.
2. 2. Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
3. 3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, kidney beans, black beans, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir to combine everything thoroughly.
4. 4. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the chili simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded and the chili has thickened to your desired consistency.
5. 5. Ladle the hot Ground Beef Stovetop Chili into bowls and top with your favorite garnishes, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, or fresh cilantro.
Notes
Adjust the Spice Level: If you prefer a milder chili, start with a smaller amount of chili powder and cayenne pepper, then taste and adjust to your liking. For a spicier version, increase the amounts of these seasonings.
Add Extra Veggies: Chili is a great vehicle for incorporating more vegetables. Try stirring in diced bell peppers, corn, or even shredded carrots for added nutrition and flavor.
Thicken It Up: If your chili is too thin, you can thicken it by simmering it uncovered for a bit longer or by stirring in a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water).
Leftovers and Storage: Ground Beef Stovetop Chili makes for fantastic leftovers. Store any extra chili in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
