Ingredients
- 2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 pound ground beef (80/20)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 12 slices thick-cut bacon
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 6 slices cheese (cheddar or American)
- 6 large eggs for frying
- Butter for cooking eggs
- Extra maple syrup for drizzling
- Optional: avocado slices
Instructions
1. Make the Waffles: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using). In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until the batter is smooth. Cook the batter in a preheated waffle maker until golden brown. Set the waffles aside.
2. Prepare the Burgers: In a mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 6 equal-sized patties.
3. Cook the Maple Bacon: Lay the bacon slices on a baking sheet. In a small bowl, mix the maple syrup, brown sugar, and cayenne (if using). Brush the maple mixture over the bacon. Bake the bacon in a preheated 400°F oven for 15-20 minutes, until crispy and caramelized.
4. Fry the Eggs: In a skillet, melt a small amount of butter over medium heat. Carefully crack the eggs and fry them to your desired doneness, whether sunny-side up or over-easy.
5. Assemble the Burgers: Place one waffle as the base, then top it with a burger patty, slices of maple bacon, a fried egg, optional avocado slices, and a drizzle of extra maple syrup. Finish the stack with another waffle as the top bun.
Notes
To ensure the juiciest burgers, be mindful not to overwork the ground beef when forming the patties. For extra flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of smoked paprika to the burger mix. When cooking the bacon, keep a close eye to prevent it from burning, and be generous with the maple syrup-brown sugar glaze for a beautifully caramelized finish.
For the waffles, the key is to not overmix the batter, as this can result in a dense and tough texture. Letting the batter rest for a few minutes before cooking will also help achieve that perfect fluffy waffle. Finally, don’t be afraid to get creative with your toppings – a dollop of creamy avocado or a sprinkle of fresh scallions can take this burger to the next level of flavor.
