Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 12 medium shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails removed
  • 4 cup cooked white rice
  • 2 cup chicken broth (prepared from bouillon)
  • 1 1/2 cup mixed onions and bell peppers, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoon vegetable oil, divided
  • 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon seafood seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 3 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper

Instructions

1. Brown Meats: Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and pork sausage, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.

2. Cook Vegetables: In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon oil, onions, and bell peppers. Sauté until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

3. Make Roux: Push vegetables to the side, add remaining oil, and stir in flour. Cook for 2–3 minutes until lightly browned.

4. Add Liquids & Seasonings: Slowly whisk in chicken broth until smooth. Stir in seafood seasoning, oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne.

5. Add Shrimp: Stir in shrimp and cook until pink, about 3–4 minutes.

6. Combine Rice & Meats: Add cooked rice and browned meats to the skillet, mixing well. Cook for 5 minutes to heat through and allow flavors to meld.

7. Serve: Enjoy hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
