Description
Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy: A Comforting, Hands-Off Meal
Ingredients
- 2 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 packet (about 1 ounce) chicken gravy mix
- 1 can (10.5 ounce) cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- Sliced green onions (optional)
Instructions
1. Season the chicken: Start by seasoning the boneless, skinless chicken breasts with garlic powder, black pepper, and a light sprinkle of salt.
2. Mix the gravy base: In your slow cooker, whisk together the chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, and water until mostly smooth.
3. Add the chicken: Place the seasoned chicken breasts into the slow cooker, ensuring they’re submerged in the gravy mixture.
4. Cook low and slow: Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is tender and easily shreds.
5. Shred and finish: Remove the cooked chicken from the slow cooker and shred it into bite-sized pieces. Return it to the slow cooker and stir in the sour cream. Warm for about 15 minutes before serving.
6. Serve and enjoy: Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, topped with sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Can add vegetables for a heartier meal.
