Recreating the Irresistible Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken at Home
Ingredients
- 2 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
 - 1/2 cup Italian dressing
 - 2 tablespoon avocado oil
 - 2 tablespoon butter
 - 8 ounce cremini mushrooms, sliced
 - 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
 - 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
 - 1 teaspoon onion powder
 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
 - 1 teaspoon salt
 - 8 ounce Monterey Jack cheese, sliced
 
Instructions
1. Marinate the chicken breasts in Italian dressing for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
2. Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chicken for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
3. Remove the chicken and keep warm.
4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms and onions for 6-8 minutes until soft and golden.
5. Return the chicken to the skillet, top with Monterey Jack cheese, cover, and let melt over low heat for about 5 minutes.
Notes
Serve with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted garlic green beans, buttery corn on the cob, fresh garden salad, or fluffy dinner rolls.
