Description
Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket are an irresistible, tasty treat that combines the comforting flavors of breakfast sausage with the delightful crunch of baked dough. This fun and easy dish has gained immense popularity for brunch gatherings, family breakfasts, or even as a finger food at parties. Originating from the classic “pigs in a blanket,” this breakfast variant brings together savory breakfast sausage links and dough, creating a mouth-watering experience that’s hard to resist.
Ingredients
- 20 cooked breakfast sausage links
- 1 can (8 ounce) refrigerated crescent roll dough sheets
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tablespoon whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoon whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray it with cooking spray.
2. In a skillet over medium-low heat, cook the sausage links until fully browned. Remove them and place on a paper towel-lined plate to cool.
3. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and maple syrup until smooth.
4. Unroll the crescent dough sheets and cut each into 20 equal triangular pieces.
5. Brush each piece of dough lightly with the custard wash. Place a sausage link at the wider end of each triangle and roll it up tightly, pressing the seam to seal.
6. Arrange the wrapped sausages seam side down on the baking sheet. Brush the tops with more custard wash and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
7. While baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
8. Drizzle the warm maple glaze over the baked Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket and serve immediately with extra warm maple syrup.
Notes
Consider using high-quality breakfast sausage for better flavor.
Ensure dough is at room temperature for easier handling.
Space wrapped sausages evenly on the baking sheet for even cooking.
