Description
Crockpot Bourbon Chicken is a mouthwatering dish that brings a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors to your table. This recipe uses tender, juicy chicken thighs slowly cooked in a rich sauce that combines the irresistible flavor of bourbon with the savory goodness of soy sauce, brown sugar, and garlic.
Ingredients
- 2 pound boneless skinless chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced or grated
- 1 to 2 tablespoon ketchup or honey, optional
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes or black pepper
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 to 3 tablespoon water
Instructions
1. Make the sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and optional ketchup or honey, along with the pepper. Blend it well.
2. Slow cook the chicken: Place the boneless, skinless chicken thighs in the crockpot. Pour the sauce over the chicken, ensuring it’s well coated. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or on high for approximately 3 hours.
3. Thicken the sauce: Mix the cornstarch with 2 to 3 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Stir this mixture into the crockpot during the last 20 to 30 minutes of cooking.
4. Finish and serve: Once cooked, shred or chop the chicken into bite-sized pieces and stir it back into the sauce. Serve over rice.
Notes
Choosing high-quality ingredients is crucial to achieving the best results. Fresh garlic and ginger can elevate the flavors beautifully.
