Description

Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken Wings are a celebration of Asian flavors, where the tangy and sweet pineapple teriyaki sauce complements the crispy, juicy wings to create a truly irresistible appetizer or main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pound chicken wings, split at joints
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoon cold water

Instructions

1. Start by patting the chicken wings dry with paper towels. Season them generously with salt and pepper on both sides, ensuring even coverage.

2. In a large nonstick skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken wings in a single layer and brown them on both sides, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding the pan.

3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger until the mixture is well combined.

4. Once the wings have been browned, pour the prepared sauce mixture over them in the skillet. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer the wings for 30 to 35 minutes, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking.

5. To thicken the sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with cold water). Continue cooking for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, turning the wings frequently, until the sauce becomes sticky, glossy, and coats the wings beautifully. Cook the wings until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

6. Transfer the Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken Wings to a serving platter. Garnish them with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve the wings hot, with extra sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.

Notes

Use fresh or thawed frozen wings for the best texture and flavor.

For extra crispiness, you can bake the wings at 400°F for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway, or air fry them at 375°F for 25-30 minutes.

Letting the wings marinate in the teriyaki sauce for 30 minutes to an hour before cooking can enhance the overall flavor.
